The Foxbright calendar system supports importing events from an .ics file (iCal format) or a .csv spreadsheet.
The .csv option requires formatting based on Foxbright's specifications. Using a .csv is helpful for adding multiple new events to a calendar managed in the Foxbright CMS. Editing or adding events to a spreadsheet is straight forward and can save time in comparison to manually adding multiple calendar events.
The .ics format is the industry standard for calendar events. Most calendar systems will allow the export of calendar data in the .ics format. Some calendars offer an iCal link which will be converted to an .ics file and downloaded when pasted into a browser. This method is helpful for importing events from a 3rd party calendar system into a calendar managed by the Foxbright CMS. The .ics format is not as easy for users to edit and is primarily designed for converting events already added to one calendar system into another.
Calendars within the Foxbright CMS can also export events in either the .ics or .csv format.
Import events from an .ics file
Please use the following steps to import events from an .ics file:
- Add the Calendar if a calendar does not already exist. See Adding a New Calendar.
- Find the Calendar using Manage Calendars
- The gear icon next to the calendar contains the various import options.
- Click the gear icon next to the calendar in question and choose Import iCal Events.
- Choose Browse for ICal File to select the calendar event file from the computer.
- Select either Purge Events to remove events already in the calendar or Keep Events to keep the already added events during the upload.
- Choose Save and the new events will be added.
Note: Please contact Foxbright Support if the third party file isn’t uploading properly. Occasionally, an .ics file may not work properly depending on the third-party export features, but with some adjustments, most .ics files will work as intended.
Import events from a .csv file
Importing calendar events using a .csv spreadsheet is the same process as when using a .ics file except Import Calendar should be selected from the calendar's gear icon, instead of Import iCal Events. Importing events using a .csv required proper formatting of the import file. See the instructions below for how to generate and edit the file for import.
Importing events from a .csv will only allow adding new events. If events in the calendar need to be deleted, follow the instructions for purging calendar events. Events in the spreadsheet that already exist in the calendar will not be duplicated.
Creating a .csv file
The easiest way to get a template for the import file is by exporting the calendar first. For more information on the data that can be added to the cells in the .csv, see the Calendar Import File Specification sheet.
