Creating the first news or newsletter post to appear on a website consists of three steps:
- Creating the News Feed(s)
- Creating the News Post(s)
- Adding News Feeds to a page.
Creating various news feeds helps organize news posts into useful segments. News posts can be shared on multiple feeds, and multiple feeds can be displayed within the same news feed block on a page.
This tutorial contains the following sections:
The following video covers the process of adding News/Newsletter Feeds and how to manage existing feeds:
Creating a News Feed
- Click the News tab from the CMS admin panel.
- Click the News Feeds button. The News Feeds list will be displayed.
- Click the + News Feed button.
- The following fields will be displayed under the Information tab:
-
- Name - Give the News Feed a name ex: Elementary News
- Type - Select the News Feed type. For normal news feeds, choose News.
- Size Category - News Headlines blocks allow images to be displayed with the feed on the page. The Size Category can determine a preset size for these images to be cropped to. The default News Article Image size category is only 150x150px, most districts using this feature create a larger size category. See adding size categories for more information, or contact support@foxbright.com or the district's web administrator to add new size categories. Note: At this time News images only show in News Headlines feeds. Foxbright plans to expand this functionality to include the image in News Feeds and News Post pages in the future.
- Building - If the website is using themes (different colors/branding for each building) use this option to select the building associated with the news feed. This will allow News Post pages to inherit the styling of the building's theme. If the website doesn't use themes, or if no option is selected, this setting will have no impact and default to the district's color/style.
- Enable RSS Feed - Allows a news feed to generate an RSS feed a visitor can subscribe to. RSS subscription buttons can be displayed or hidden when adding a news feed to a page, thus this setting is typically left set to 'Yes'.
- Include Archived in Feed - Determines whether archived posts will be available in News RSS feeds.
-
- In the Permissions tab, click the name of additional CMS users that should have access to manage or add posts to the news feed.
- Click Save. The News Feed has now been created and News Posts can be added to the feed.
