Marking Images as 'Decorative' When Alt-text Not Required

Foxbright has added a required 'decorative' designation check-box to areas accepting uploaded images including photo galleries, spotlights, and images displayed as content on a page. This provides a reminder for editors to add alt-text when required, such as for linked images or images with text information within them, which is inaccessible to screen readers without appropriate alt-text.

Many photos on websites are for decorative purposes and won't require alt-text. For these images, checking the 'decorative' field is required to save the content. Decorative images will have an 'empty' alt-text tag signaling to screen readers that they are decorative and can be ignored. Marking decorative images as such allows those using a screen reader to focus on other more-essential content on the page.
